Local jail custody for Surry County is served by Riverside Regional Jail, a regional adult jail operated by the Riverside Regional Jail Authority. The Riverside inmate lookup is the official online channel for people held in Riverside custody, including Surry County arrestees committed to the regional jail. - If no match appears, check spelling and date of birth, then search VADOC, VINE, BOP, and ICE separately.
The roster should be treated as one access channel in a longer chain. A no-result search can mean the person is not in custody, has not yet appeared, was released, is in state or federal custody, or is held under a system that does not feed the Riverside public lookup.

Search and reset image buttons appear in both panels. The captured source also shows keyboard handling for the Enter key in name and identifier fields. That is useful for access, but the key point for Surry County users is simpler: search by name first, then use identifiers to narrow a common name.

Booking means jail intake after arrest. A booking number tracks that custody event. A charge is an alleged offense, not a conviction. A detainer is a hold or request from another authority that can affect release even when a local bond exists.
Surry County Custody Comparison
The Surry County jail roster is not the right tool for every inmate search. Riverside covers local and regional jail custody. The Virginia Department of Corrections inmate and supervisee locator covers sentenced state custody, probationers and parolees, people in VADOC institutions, people in institutional hospitals, some people housed in local or regional jails under VADOC authority, and CCAP participants. VADOC says its locator is updated daily, but it also warns that displayed data may be inaccurate or outdated.

Surry County Visitation Rules
Visits for Surry County inmates at Riverside are scheduled through Riverside's visitation system, not through a Surry County jail desk. The jail warns visitors to follow the posted schedule even if an online system allows another time. Arrive early, bring proper identification, and expect screening. Visitor rules can change after facility notices, so the current Riverside visitation page should control any trip.

Dress rules are specific. Footwear and undergarments are required, and the jail can refuse revealing or inappropriate clothing, including see-through garments, crop tops, low-cut clothing, mini-skirts, backless tops, sleeveless garments, and similar items listed by Riverside. The visitation area also bans smoking, eating, drinking, phones, recording devices, handbags, weapons, tobacco products, letters, pictures, books, and toys, with limited infant items allowed.
Surry County Mail and Calls
Riverside uses different mail paths for personal mail and legal mail. Personal, non-legal mail is processed by a third party and delivered digitally through inmate tablets, with paper provided if the inmate does not have tablet access. Legal mail goes directly to the jail. Mixing those addresses can delay or misroute a message.

Many phone companies do not allow collect calls to cell phones, so debit calling may be needed. Professional visits are treated differently from family visits; Riverside says professional visits are not recorded or monitored, and professional phone no-charge or no-record status requires verification.
Surry County Money and Records
Keefe Commissary Network manages Riverside commissary, and Riverside links Access Corrections and Access Catalog for funds and care packages. Online deposits have fees. Funds can also be accepted by mail or in person at Keefe kiosks. Riverside says cash deposits submitted through lobby kiosks have no fee. Care package rules include a one-order-per-month limit for eligible inmates with more than $2.00 in the account, according to the official page text captured in the research.
If the roster does not answer the question, split the records request by custodian. Riverside FOIA handles jail-held booking and confinement records at foia@rrjva.org. Surry County FOIA handles county-held sheriff or general government records through the county FOIA process. The Surry County FOIA page says public records are presumed open unless an exemption applies, requests do not have to be in writing, the county responds within five working days, and actual costs may be charged, with a possible deposit if estimated costs exceed $200.
